Career in STEM series (3): Machine Learning from Near to Far

Girls Go Tech has launched a ‘Career in STEM' series in which participants can learn about different STEM-related industries to inform their decisions around university subject choices and career planning.

The third session in the ‘Career in STEM’ series is titled “Machine Learning from near to far”. Technology translates data into knowledge and broadens our horizon. In this webinar, we have invited three guest speakers: Kitty Wu, a software engineer from investment bank Macquarie, will speak on algorithmic trading ; Kayi Chan, a Research Assistant at the University of Hong Kong, will discuss the utilisation of drones and machine learning to tackle plastic pollution in the marine environment; Yoyo Chu, a PhD student at the University of Hong Kong, will speak on studying STEM and share briefly about her work on Martian geomorphology.

Cybersecurity Workshop

This workshop aims to raise participants’ awareness of Cybersecurity, and to shine a light on the importance of protecting our cyber world, which include social media platforms and online shopping sites that we use in our daily lives.

Co-organised by Cisco, Cybersecurity experts will share common types of Cybersecurity threats and how Cisco, a top Cybersecurity company, helps their customers stay protected from cybercrime. Learn how Cybersecurity impacts our world and future use of technology, what we can each do to combat cybercrime, and what exciting career opportunities exist in Cybersecurity.

IBM – Blockchain the Game Changer Workshop

Blockchain technology has the potential to be game-changing for supply chain, financial services, legal, healthcare and many other industries.

Co-organised by IBM, The Blockchain the Game Changer Workshop will include The Blockchain Game, a hands-on exercise that explains the core principles of blockchain and serves as a launching pad for discussion of blockchain’s real-world applications. In The Blockchain Game, you could act as nodes and miners together on a blockchain network for storing grades at a school that is safe and unbreakable by machines! The miners will also get rewarded for their hard work.
